GV free call solution
Assume you have smartphone like Android, don't have 3G data plan, have wifi access in many place, then this solution is for you: real US phone number, voicemail, receive call and call out totally free for US and Canada.
1) SIP account
1st of all you need SIP account to receive normal phone to VOIP client, you can get free SIP account from http://www.localphone.com. You can register free account from there, fill you call from which country, which number to your friend's country and number, then get your free account; the next one and important one is to do VOIP upgrade, then you will have:
SIP ID: 7 digital number
SIP password
domain: localphone.com
proxy: proxy.localphone.com2) US phone number
apply local US phone number to receive call to SIP account, IPKall is best choice for this.
Go to http://www.ipkall.com, register US local number, you will need above SIP account info.
3) SIP client
setup SIP client on Android to receive call
There are many SIP client, for example fring, SIPdroid, I prefer SIPdroid since phone quality seems better than fring.

Fill up SIP account in SIPdroid, supposed you will see green light on top.
In Preferred Call Type: choice Phone, otherwise by default all call will use SIPdroid, this is not our expected, in fact you only use SIPdroid to receive call, cannot and not need to make any call out since you didn't pay for localphone SIP account.
Make test call to local US phone number which you get from IPKall, you should receive from SIPdroid now.
4) apply Google Voice
GV is great feature for gmail user, you will have real US phone number, voicemail, call forwarding, free call to US and Canada at least in 2011.
Currently this is only for US customer, but if you can get US IP through VPN, then you can easy to apply this great feature.
Login to gmail account, then open another window, type in http://www.google.com/voice, in left side you will see Upgrade button. You can choice number after give area code, will ask you one US phone number to activate your GV, so you just place US number from IPKall, when GV ring, you receive call in SIPdroid, type in 2 digital activate code, done, you get full feature Google Voice.
5)setup GV call back feature in Android
install GVoice Callback Free on Android.
Fill in the GV account and callback number which is IPKall number.
This tool is to make sure GV call you back when you make international call using GV, so for all GV call, you only receive call instead of calling out, and coming in call always goes through SIP, that's why everything is free for you, only data usage or wifi access.

how to make free call to US and Canada any landlines or cell phone
Make sure SIPdroid is on, check top green light.
Go to Phone button like normal call, click phone number, you will have Keypad option, click then you have Callback and normal call options, Callback is for GV call, the GVoice Callback app will connect GV and call you back to SIPdroid, when you accept call, you will hear call to your destination.
This solution also works for 3G access.
